Today Mrs. Thornburgh showed up pictures from the trips she took this summer. We saw pictures from the North Cascades, Honduras, Denmark and Norway. We asked lots of questions. In math we worked more with the Product game. We are getting our heads around different words like divisor, multiple, factor, and product. Knowing the vocabulary makes the math so much easier. Also, knowing our multiplication facts really helps. This afternoon we went to Music. Ms. McCallam said we did much better today than last week. Then it was time for Science. First, we had to think of a cell phone as a "black box" and try to explain how it works. Mrs. Thornburgh showed us a cool site on the web called "How Stuff Works". This will be helpful with our models homework. Then, Mrs. Thornburgh showed us a contraption that she had made. She poured in 100 ml of water and 500 ml came out! We had to figure out what was going on inside the box that was hiding the system. We did a lot of thinking, drawing and discussing. We came up with great ideas. In the end, Mrs. Thornburgh revealed the system. It was a siphon. It was neat, because several of us had been very close to this idea. We organized our binders and made sure we had everything we needed before going home.
